WHAT IS PARANOIDANDROID,-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you haven't heard of our project, this is Androids one and only true hybrid Rom. This is the only Rom that let'
s you explore the true capabilities of your apps without smashing your device.
In the past Rom-scene cooks have changed build.prop DPI values to force apps into their often better tablet layout
s, this did severe damage to the device, things shrunk, became unstable, crashed, apps were unreadable, the market
would refuse to function, etc. PA introduces the hybrid engine, which makes it possible to choose the actual layou
ts that apps bring on per-app-basis, individually. On top of that you can define a size and several other goodies-
to make these apps fit your screen perfectly.
The engine is the heart and soul of this rom and allows for many cool things that no other Rom can give you (per-a
pp-color where colors shift from app to app, per-app-fullscreen, etc., etc., etc.). We wrote many more cool featur
es for PA and of course we'll add the usual suspects that you'll find in pretty much all roms today (themes, butto
ns, quicktoggles, etc.)
AOSPA is a new breed of PA, one that tries to reconcile a true Google experience with standard essential Rom-scene
tweaks without getting hacky or cluttery. If you long for a Google oriented rom with creative and boundary-pushing
features, look no further.
HYBRID ENGINE,-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The most important thing you need to know, PA is not "tablet mode." tablet mode is an arbitrary term that was born
when rom scene devs noticed they could force apps into different layouts by changing the system DPI. That was a re
ally dirty hack and it caused a mess. Unfortunately it stuck in peoples minds that you somehow change layout by ch
anging an apps DPI, which is wrong. Some also expect all apps to magically transform into tab-UI just because nav+
statusbar have been combined, which is also wrong.
Basically its really, really simple. Everything in Android is an app. Games, programs, keyboards, systemcomponents
and even your bars (status+navbar). Hybrid can adress these apps and change their size and layout. Know that DPI o
nly changes size, nothing more. Layouts are arbitrary, there is no "tablet mode," apps can bring hundreds of layou
ts for all sorts of screen sizes. Google Play for instance brings 5, for 5 different screensizes. Each size provok
es a transformation. Hybrid extracts these layouts and lets you pick one. You can use hybrid engine to force all y
our apps into a certain size/layout via the "interface" header in the hybrid settings. System-default-dpi/layout a
nd User-default-DPI/layout. If you go and define single apps though they will always override the default properti
es. The most important thing: when you use the "launch" presets, they will simply define systemUI, the app that di
splays bars. your other apps will stay as you like them. That means settings will retain its two columns even if y
ou go to "Phone UI." If you prefer settings with one pane simply switch it to its smallest layout - the app will b
e one-paned even if you select the "Tablet UI" launch item.
